Friedberg Named Ivy League Rookie of the Year

Posted November 17, 2022

Congratulations to STA alumni Ryan Friedberg on being named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year!

Friedberg, who represents Cornell University, has been sensational this season and played a huge role for “Big Red” in their run to this year’s College Cup. He received Rookie of the Year honors after posting a 13-3-1 record with a 1.01 goals-against average and a .685 save percentage. His 13 wins are the most by a freshman on record in Cornell program history, and his win total is the third-most by a Big Red goalkeeper.

Our former ECNL Boys standout made his USL2 debut earlier this season and has continued his fine form in his inaugural college season.

ECNL Boys Director and USL2 Head Coach Tom Shields said, “I am absolutely ecstatic for Ryan. After three Rookie of the Week awards, we hoped this was coming, but it is absolutely wonderful to see his qualities recognized in the postseason awards. Everyone at STA knows how highly we rate him and we have been so proud of how he has transferred his club form and the qualities he showed during his youth career and this summer with us in USL2 to the big stage. Congratulations Ryan, and good luck in the Big Dance!”
