TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

A native of Hull, England, Boys Director of Coaching Tom Shields joined STA with an exhaustive list of previous coaching and educational experience, making him one of the most progressive young coaches in the country.

 

Holding both a Masters in Sport Psychology and an Undergraduate Degree in Sport Coaching, alongside experience as a University Professor in Sports Coaching and Sport and Exercise Science at Leeds Metropolitan University, and countless published articles, Tom helps STA blend together the worlds of education and coaching.

 

The former Head Coach of Hull City Ladies (FA Women's Premier League) and the University of Hull, an Assistant and NCAA Division I Title Winning Coach at Central Connecticut State University, The Director of Player Performance and Pedagogy at Rutgers University, US Club Soccer Boys ID2 National Staff Coach, ODP and Region I Staff Coach, United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) Associate National Staff Coach and former Development and Community Coach at Hull City, Leeds United and Bradford City, the experiences that Tom can draw upon to share with our membership are significant.

 

In addition, he holds a USSF A Youth License, USSF National Youth License, NSCAA Premier Diploma and NSCAA Director of Coaching Diploma along with a number of FA and LMA certifications.

 

Since his arrival, he has overseen the commitments of more than 50 Boys Players to Colleges throughout the NCAA ranks including a number to “Power FIve” Division I schools.

Kyle Martyn joined STA in the summer of 2021 as the Girls Academy Director. Originally from Media, Pennsylvania, the former professional player will help in managing and directing the Girls Academy as well as provide support, guidance, and leadership to the Girls Program and STA as a whole. 

 

Having worked in Youth Soccer for more than a decade, Kyle has gained valuable perspective in the U.S. Soccer landscape and will be able to pull on these perspectives to grow and strengthen the experience our players have at STA. Coaching wise he has achieved many successes with his teams at the State, Regional, and National level as well has been immersed in the college recruiting process on the girls side in providing guidance and direction to ensure our female players have the best platform possible to play at some of the top collegiate programs in the region. 

 

Prior to his coaching experience Kyle was a Regional All American at Alvernia University and has played professionally amongst numerous clubs throughout the USL, MLS, NPSL  and the Major Indoor Soccer League as well. 

 

Holding a B.S. in Sport Management with Epsion Sigma honors  as well as a USSF ‘A’ License, Kyle’s vast experience both from a playing and coaching point of of view will prove of tremendous worth to STA’s players, staff, and community.
