Dean Slaughter
Coach
Dean Slaughter

A holder of FA, UEFA, USSF and NSCAA coaching qualifications, Dean joined SONESOCCER with experience coaching many levels of the game in both Europe & United States. A former academy and development academy coach at professional club Wycombe Wanderers in England, where he helped a number of players develop into full-time professional, Dean has been coaching soccer for eight years - the last three in Northern New Jersey. Dean’s education includes the study of Sport Science, including sports psychology, bio-mechanics, and fitness training methods, which led to his initial employment as a personal fitness trainer, another perspective he can offer his teams.

"I have worked in and around the New Jersey area for the past 4 years," says Dean "and realize the potential that exists here to really make a difference. I am committed to pushing players to meet their full potential, and SONESOCCER has given me this chance not just to push the talented to be best but to push the best to be even better."

Dean also serves as the assistant coach to both the highly competitive STA Crush, and the Millburn High School Varsity girls soccer team, helping them to an Essex County Championship in 2009.

Carly Bray
Coach
Carly Bray

Carly been playing soccer since the age of 8, and spent three yeas at the highly competitive Arsenal Academy, a select and exclusive full-time soccer program run by the English and former European Champions. The holder of First and National Diplomas in Sport and Exercise Science, Carly played at left-back for English Women's Premier League clubs Arsenal and Bristol City, before moving to the United States, where she was an integral part of the Millburn Magic team in the 2009 season, playing in every game on the path to the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) Regional Final.

Carly also gained her coaching qualifications while at Arsenal, including her Level II (UEFA C license), and gained considerable experience working with young players in the UK before moving stateside, where her work with the Magic youth teams has already been rewarded with a number of tournament successes across New Jersey. A lively personality with considerable personal playing experience to draw upon, Carly also has a strong base of coaching knowledge to help young players. "Playing and coaching in the United States has always been a goal of mine", she says, "and I really enjoy being able to pass on my experience to other young girls teams".

Carly lives in Morris County, and enjoys keeping fit in her free time."

The Spirit team will get together for the Spring season, as a supplement to existing travel commitments. Please note that this is not intended to replace existing year round teams.

The Spirit will have two training sessions per week (Monday / Friday) of which players must attend one. In addition, the team will play 6-8 games in MAPS league, and one tournament. Games will be scheduled early or late on Saturday and Sunday, to avoid conflicts with existing club programs.

While not part of the STA program, STA youth teams often choose to stay together and participate in a summer program, participating in a Pre-Y tournament program, taking in the best of youth soccer across New Jersey and beyond throughout June and July. While popular, this is an option, and not part of the STA program.
